Project 3: Book Cover Series
The series I am choosing to work on is a young reader collection called, “Ghost Twins”. Each book is centered around a mystery involving twin ghost children and their faithful ghost dog. I am familiar with this book series because I am currently reading it to my twin eight-year-olds. I thought it would be best to focus my attention on the first three books of the series. Each book is a mystery which is takes place in the 90’s, however the main characters have been ghosts for fifty years. The stories take place in the fictional Moosehead National Park but each book is set in a different location within the park. These books are mysteries, and they are meant to be a little bit spooky but not scary. I want to allude to the eerie but the style and colors will keep it from being too frightening for younger children. Because I have read each of these books, I am able to interject some aspect of the book’s story into the cover design.
This project is not complete. I plan on keeping the series title, fonts, and author consistent from book cover to book cover. I also plan on keeping the style and colors of my illustrations consistent but I want to make each book cover appealing for the new reader.
Project Overview: Create a series of illustrated book covers that are visually cohesive in style. The illustration should demonstrate a mastery of aesthetics, compositional principles, and illustrator tools.
